Sejin DTR-1 Keyboard replacement

Carl Jacobson (jacobson@dgsys.com) says that he purchased a Sejin keyboard from http://www.sejin.com/ that is a little bigger than the DTR-1 keyboard and doesn't fit in the leather case, but you can touch-type on it.

Use DTR-2 Keyboard as replacement

Several people I've talked to have been able to get ahold of a DTR-2 keyboard, which reportably fits comfortably in the carrying case, and it much prettier and easier to type on. You can see it in the pictures section. The best place to get them would probably be CompUSA or Dauphin Technologies, themselves.

DTR-1 Modem Information

Ever wanted to know about the DTR-1's modem? Well, it's a:

I don't see it socketed anywhere, do you? This may interest some that I found it on a "PowerPort for PowerBooks" page. Now to upgrade it! Or remove it, that would save battery life.

Sandisk flash as hard disk replacement?

Go to http://www.sandisk.com/. Several of their drives have been considered as possible canidates for replaceing the DTR-1's hard drive. Primary enhancements are battery life (50 microamps or something idle, 50 milliamps reading, etc.), and storage space (up to ~$200). Disadvantages are price and compatibility.

Harder, Sturdier case replacement for DTR-1?

I found a $19.95 padded hard-shell case that the DTR-1 fits to a tee, and it can be found in any Target, Walmart, or any record store such as Wherehouse records or Target records. Its called the FLIPDISC laserline FD40 padded 40-CD case. Pop out the CD caddys, and the DTR-1 and it's keyboard fits snugly inside like it was designed with the Dauphin in mind. There is a 3/8" foam padding all around, and what I really like is that it comes with a shoulder strap (which was missed in the original "leatherette" case. It also looks cool in it's gunmetal-grey color.

I use mine all the time, and it will take bumps and scracthes where the original case won't.

Hope this will help anyone who wants to replace their case with something more sturdier, or who doesn't want to pay too much for a replacement.

DTR-1 Math Coprocessor Upgrade

I called Dauphin tech support today (2/10/97) and was told the math-co for the DTR-1 is the Cyrix 387 SLC. It "can" be user installed if you are VERY careful, but they do not recommend it. They will install it for you if you send the unit in. (I forgot to ask how much it would cost)

Dauphin External HDD Connector Parts

AMP, inc. (www.amp.com) has DTR-1 connectors under these part numbers:

175677-7  Cable connector assembly, 0.50" Champ
176793-7  Champ 0.50" hood & shield

The cable required is 28ga ribbon cable, but there's a specification on the insulation diameter.

Using an External Hard Drive Cable

I spoke with the crew at Dauphin the other week and asked if there would be any trouble with using an external hard drive(ide) with the DTR-1 and they said that so long as you have the pin outs for the external hard drive you should not have a problem with the system accepting the external.
