As your primary sources of information, use the following:

The Introducing Microsoft Windows 95 manual: This is
shipped with your OmniBook and contains information about
using the standard features of Windows 95.

The OmniBook website at http://www.hp.com/omnibook: The
Corporate Evaluator's Guide at our website provides complete
information about installing alternate operating systems, as
well as how to configure the OmniBook in a corporate,
networked environment.
----------------------------------------

1. Important Backup Information

Because the HP OmniBook Sojourn is repaired by exchange
only, you should regularly back up your data. To minimize
your inconvenience or loss of data files, you should back up
your data files regularly! Backup files are important
because:

* If you accidentally delete or lose a file on your hard
disk, a backup copy provides a convenient recovery method.
* The HP OmniBook Sojourn is repaired by exchange
only-you do not get your unit or hard drive back as part of
a service exchange. Service exchange units have the
operating system preloaded on the hard drive and are ready
for you to load your applications and data files.
----------

2. Caution-Adapter Use

Use the HP OmniBook Sojourn ac adapter (F1434A) and
auto/airline adapter (F1435A) with HP OmniBook Sojourn
products only. The voltage and polarity of these adapters
can damage other equipment.
----------

3. Precautions

This section describes certain situations that could cause
serious loss of data.

Do not remove a data storage PC Card while it is actively
reading or writing--its data could become corrupted.

Certain applications, such as Intuit's Quicken, keep their
working files open, and they update the files as you make
changes. For such applications, you should open only files
that reside on the hard drive, not on a removable disk. An
open file on a removable disk (such as a floppy disk or PC
Card) is susceptible to corruption in certain situations.
----------

4. Using a Pointing Device During Rebooting and Resuming

While the OmniBook is rebooting, resuming (turning itself on
after suspension), starting Windows, or exiting Windows, do
not touch the touch pad or an attached external pointing
device. This may result in the pointing device not
functioning. Wait until the screen is stabilized and the
hour glass ceases to appear. If the pointing device is not
functional, try the following steps, in this order, until it
is functional. While performing these steps, do not touch
the external pointing device.

1. Press any key on the keyboard.

2. Suspend the OmniBook and then resume it (press the
power button briefly to suspend, then
press the button again to resume).

3. Shut down Windows, then turn the OmniBook off and on
   (Start menu, Restart).
----------

5. Using Infrared Communications

Infrared communications are, by default, not enabled on the
OmniBook computer. To use infrared communications, read the
readme files and and load the drivers supplied on the hard
drive or on the Recovery CD-ROM under \OmniBook\Drivers.
Look in the subdirectory for your operating system, then
look under Fast IR or IrDA.
----------

6. Avoiding Infrared Printing Problems

If you have problems with infrared printing or problems
while infrared printing is enabled, check these suggestions:

Try setting up the infrared printer as COM4 instead of
LPT3. COM4 is an alternative infrared
  port.

  DeskJet 340, 690, 820, 850, and 870 printers must use
COM4. For the DeskJet 340 in Windows
95 you must also limit the connection speed (Options tab
in the IR Monitor) to 38.4kbps.
----------

7. Avoiding Problems with Infrared Operations

To avoid problems with infrared communications or printing,
close applications using IR or any folders opened remotely
over an IR link and disable IR in the IR Monitor before
suspending the OmniBook or docking.
----------

8. Restoring Proper Infrared Operation

Sometimes the infrared software gets into an error state so
that further infrared operations do not work. Try one of
the following suggestions to restore proper operation:

In Windows 95 disable and re-enable infrared communication
using the IR Monitor Options tab. Be sure to click on
"Apply" or "OK" after disabling and after re-enabling.

Close all applications and reboot the OmniBook.
----------

9. Microsoft's "Infrared Transfer" Application (Windows 95
Only)

To avoid problems with Microsoft's Infrared Transfer
application, enable it only when you actually need to use it
and then disable it again. To enable or disable Infrared
Transfer, right click on the Infrared Recipient icon in My
Computer and click on the Enable/Disable Infrared transfer
menu entry.
----------

10. Do Not Enable "Autodetect CD"

If "Autodetect CD" is enabled on your OmniBook and a CD-ROM
is present, your OmniBook will not automatically turn off
after a period of inactivity. For this reason, "Autodetect
CD" should not be enabled on your OmniBook.
----------

11. Synchronizing an External Display or Projector

If you connect an external display, projector, or projection
panel to the
OmniBook display output, and its image is not stable, try
one of the following:

- Use a display or projector that matches the resolution of
the OmniBook display (SVGA).

 -or-

1. Change the Display Properties of the OmniBook to match
the resolution of the projector or external display: In
Control Panel, Display, Settings, change the Desktop Area to
800 by 600 pixels or to 640 by 480 pixels.

2. Turn off the OmniBook's display and retain the external
display by pressing SHIFT+ALT+BACKSPACE, as needed.
----------

12. Using Older Models of Microsoft Mice

The OmniBook cannot use Suspend mode with two of Microsoft's
older mice models (parts #28898 and #07685). The suspend and
resume activity causes the OmniBook to lock up with these
mice. If you are using one of these mice, do the following
to prevent this problem:

 1. Open the BIOS Setup utility (reboot, then press F2).

 2. In the Power menu, disable the setting for Resume on
Modem Ring.

 3. Exit the Setup utility.
----------

13. Cannot Use ESC during Boot Process

Contrary to the information in the User's Guide, chapter 6
(Troubleshooting), under Accessory Problems, "If you can't
boot from a CD in the CD-ROM drive":

You cannot press ESC to interrupt the boot process and make
temporary changes.
----------

14. Installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 was installed when you
started your OmniBook for the first time.
However, only the minimum required Microsoft Internet
Explorer 4.0 files have been installed, including the
Internet Explorer 4.01 browser and Outlook Express.

If you want to uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01,
you can do so by going to the Control Panel / Add/Remove
Programs and selecting Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 in
the Install/Uninstall tab.

If you wish to have a complete installation of Microsoft
Internet Explorer 4.01 on your OmniBook, including all
applets and tools, run the "Internet Explorer 4.0 Active
Setup" located under Start Menu / Programs / Accessories /
Internet Tools. This installation will allow you to install
one or more of the following applets and tools:

* Netmeeting
* FrontPage Express
* NetShow
* Web Publishing
* Chat
* Multimedia Enhancement including Real Audio
----------

15. Taskbar Mute / Unmute indicator can be incorrect after
suspending to disk

Pressing the F10 function key mutes and unmutes your audio.
However, after resuming from Suspend to Disk, the mute /
umnute indicator on the Taskbar will not immediately reflect
this action. The indicator will correctly indicate the mute
/ unmute status after your audio hardware is accessed, such
as when you begin playing an audio CD.
----------

16. Occasional Difficulty Inserting PC Cards and Floppy
disks

Infrequently, you may experience some difficulty inserting
PC Cards into the OmniBook PC Card slots. This is
especially true if there are any rough or raised areas on
your PC Card. Remove and reinsert the PC Card and/or jiggle
the PC Card slightly when inserting. This difficulty may
also occur occasionally when inserting a Floppy disk into
the OmniBook Media Slice Floppy drive.
----------

17. Default BIOS setting for system resources

The default OmniBook BIOS setting is to have system
resources (IRQs, DMA, etc.) handled by Windows 95. If you
need to configure these devices manually (such as when
running Guardian or operating your OmniBook in DOS mode)
switch the `OS Legacy Mode Support' BIOS setting to `No'.
----------

18. If you need to reinstall Phoenix PowerPanel

Your HP OmniBook Sojourn comes equipped with the Phoenix
PowerPanel software. We recommend you use that software on
your HP OmniBook Sojourn.

If you should ever need to reinstall the PowerPanel
application, just run the SETUP.EXE
program located in the
C:\OmniBook\Drivers\Win95\PPanel\Disk1\ directory and follow
the instructions.

Phoenix PowerPanel is an application that gives users
complete control over the power management behavior of their
systems as well as key information about system activity and
battery life.

PowerPanel
- extends system battery life by allowing easy change of
power management behavior with a single icon click.
- provides method for direct power control of devices, such
as video, hard-drive, PC Card, sound system or other devices.
- drag and drop other applications and program icons from
the desktop to the PowerPanel toolbar.
- replaces character-based SETUP or Pop-Up power management
screen with simple and powerful icon-based Application Bar.

You can find more information about Phoenix PowerPanel at
the following URL:
http://www.phoenix.com/notebook/ppanel.html
----------

19. Avoid Standby and Suspend setting

By default, your OmniBook is configured to disallow going
directly from Standby power mode to Suspend mode (Suspend-to-
RAM or Save-to-Disk) because doing so may result in poor
system performance or a system crash. Your PowerPanel
profile and BIOS settings should not be modified to allow
Standby to Suspend.
----------

20. Universal Serial Bus (USB) Disabled on your OmniBook

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a recent and evolving technology.
By default, USB is disabled on your HP OmniBook Sojourn.
To gain a good understanding of current limitations and how USB
will perform on Sojourn, please consult the OmniBook website
at http://www.hp.com/omnibook.
Click on Support followed by Software/FAQs.
Then look under HP OmniBook Sojourn PC. You will find USB
drivers and a review of USB issues to enable the best possible
implementation of today's USB features on your Sojourn.
